A few weekends ago Laura Leigh and I were off on another #travelbloggerbesties trip and this time it was to Banner Elk in the NC Mountains!  Y’all know I’m a beach girl, but the bed & breakfast we stayed in and the quaint little town pretty much stole my heart!  So let’s get started on sharing all the deets of our fun girls weekend! ….

Where We Stayed

The Lodge at River Run – where do I even start with my love for this place?!  Mr. Ray and Ms. Laura, the owners, were SO sweet and during our time there felt like “mom and dad”.  Meaning I just felt like part of the family, they told the best stories, and could not have been better hosts!  The innkeeper, Ms. Bobbie, was so incredibly helpful with anything we needed throughout our stay as well.  Her and Laura have been friends all their lives and seemed like sisters.  It was so fun meeting them and hearing how “The Lodge at River Run” came to be!  EVERY detail was thought of at The Lodge as well.  The decorations for each room ((we stayed in The Hummingbird)) were well thought out, there was coffee and water every where you turned ((my heaven!)), there were sweet treats on our bed at night, and a happy hour every evening!  More on that below!

What We Ate

Dunn’s Deli

The Lodge at River Run – every evening Ms. Bobbie makes an appetizer and hosts a happy hour.  I mean, I don’t think I need to tell you that that right there alone makes this place worth a stay.  And if I haven’t already convinced you, she also makes breakfast every morning.  From scratch!! See that picture of the blueberry french toast.  Yep, she made it!  ((It was also covered in chocolate and maple syrup – YUM!!))  She is a professionally trained chef and takes great care and honor in her food.  It was a pleasure to dine with her!

Mountain Grounds Coffee & Tea Co – if you’re a coffee lover like me, you must stop by here!  Heather and her husband, Will, recently took over the shop and have really done a great job with it!  While there I decided to indulge in a mocha but Heather told me her favorite is a cappuccino with 2% milk.  When the coffee tastes so good on its own that you don’t need a flavor, that’s when you know its good stuff!

Artisanal – Laura Leigh and I decided to stop in for an app and drinks one night and SO happy we did!  The atmosphere is one of kind!  It’s on the pricier side but we had heard such great reviews that we wanted to try it out too.

Reid’s Cafe – We stopped here on our way out of town and it was SO GOOD!!! The menu is constantly changing which in my opinion makes the food that much better.  A good way to try new things and get out of your “ordering comfort zone”.  PS – the chocolate peanut butter brownie is AMAZING!  If it’s there when you go, GET IT!

Stonewalls – Pretty sure this was my favorite meal of the trip!! I had the Chicken Oscar which was grilled chicken topped with crab and hollandaise sauce with a side of asparagus and mashed sweet potatoes.  Also made a trip to the salad bar ((#iliketoeat)) and was very impressed with the options.  The prices here were very reasonable for the food you receive and I highly recommend for dinner!

What We Did

Grandfather Vineyard & Winery – Sooooo .. what’s a girls trip without some wine?!  Haha .. seriously though.  I will have a whole separate post soon on the winery, but for now just know that I would add it to my “things to do in the NC Mountains” list!

Hiking – funny story, Laura Leigh and I tried to go hiking on a couple different trails and because we did not plan ahead of time ((what were we thinking?!)), we opted to walk around the river behind The Lodge and did a little exploring.  Ms. Bobbie had some great suggestions on where to go and we should have consulted her before trying to adventure off on our own haha!

Bonfire – one evening Mr. Ray started a fire in the fire pit by the river and we had a late night s’mores roasting party.  It gave me such an itch for fall!!!

I could not sing higher praises for The Lodge at River Run, the people of Banner Elk, the restaurants around town, and the beautiful scenery of the NC mountains.  If you’ve never been, I hope this guide has convinced you to go!!  And if you have been, I hope I introduced you to some more places around town.  I assure you they are ALL worth a visit!

Thanks for stopping by y’all and have a great weekend!

Thank you to The Lodge at River Run for our stay and some of the various restaurants mentioned for our meals in exchange for today’s review. As always, these are my authentic and honest words and opinions!

This place looks so cozy! Would love to visit someday! x

    • It looked like you guys had SO much fun! I was born in North Carolina and lived there for eight years — yet I still haven’t spent much time in the mountains. Definitely need to get there sooner rather than later.

I’m actually going to the mountains next month. I’m staying around Asheville. But that lodge that you stayed at sounds heavenly. Food from scratch, good service, happy hour, and appetizers, you can’t beat it. http://sugarcoatedbears.blogspot.com/

    • Take me back, take me back! So in love with The Lodge at River Run and the sweet Banner Elk town. Oh and the French toast by Bobbie.
