Summer and make-up aren’t usually the best combo. Full coverage matte foundation and a smokey eye + 100 degree temps = disaster! But I have found the perfect lightweight ((yet still covers my redness and uneven skin tone)) foundation, fresh eye make-up, and brightening steps to give you that summer glow I know you’re looking for! I put this together in order of the steps in which I apply so I hope it’s easy to follow along! Let’s begin! ….
Moisturize and Prime
Hydrating and priming your face for make-up is an essential step! I have very normal skin ((after taking Acutane about a year ago)) and therefore am not too picky about my moisturizers. In the summer I prefer something extra hydrating though because of the frequent sun exposure. I mix a dime sized amount of this IT Cosmetics primer with my Mary Kay moisturizer and it works like a dream! The moisturizer gives my skin a healthy glow and the primer prepares my face for make-up. I have been using this combo for about a year now and don’t see it changing anytime soon!
Now this product is new for me, but has literally been a life-saver in my summer make-up routine! It’s a lightweight, mineral, full coverage, and long lasting foundation that’s both oil free & hypoallergenic. There’s even chemical free SPF 15 in it!! Making it PERFECT for summer! I got this foundation ((in shade LA)) c/o Ashley Sievert Beauty on the Friday I was leaving for the beach so of course I packed it when I saw it contains SPF 15. I wore it every day out to the beach and my face stayed protected. Then I forgot to wear it on day 4 and I burned! This stuff really worked and I can’t recommend it enough for you ladies looking for a product that protects, stays all day, and looks gorgeous on the skin! I absolutely love that it’s full coverage yet the furthest thing from “cakey”. No one wants that! Especially in the summer time! I apply with my large flat top – Mineral Velvet Crème brush c/o Ashley Sievert Beauty every time. Starting in my T-zone and working outwards.
Conceal and Powder
Next up, I brighten my under eyes with the glow under eye brightener c/o Ashley Sievert Beauty and set both the brightener and my foundation with the mineral finishing velvet powder ((in shade LA)) using my dome top – mineral finishing powder brush c/o Ashley Sievert Beauty. This helps brighten my face and set my base layer so that it stays all day.
Eyes, Highlight, and Set
In the winter, these are the steps that take me the longest because Oct-Feb I like doing darker eye make-up, contouring, lots of blush, etc. But in the summer ‘ain’t nobody got time for that’! This Tarte showstopper palette is the BEST for the warmer months and typically low key make-up days, because its a one stop grab-and-go! In the summer, I apply “you’re a natural” ((3rd from the left)) first, then “go for the gold” ((2nd from the left)) both with my Rae Morris eyeshadow brush. And that’s it for my eyes! Then pop a little bit of blush ((color is Fame)) on the apples of my cheeks using my IT Cosmetics dual ended brush and finish with some highlight. First I apply the Marc Jacobs glow stick highlight with my finger on my cheekbones and brow bone, then go over top of the cream highlight with the powder highlight in the Tarte palette ((color is Champagne Pink)) using the flat brush. Summer make-up is all about “glow” so that’s why I double up on these. My final step in face make-up is setting everything with my IT Cosmetics bye-bye pores setting powder using the IT Cosmetics heavenly luxe HUGE fluffy brush.
Eyebrows, Liner, and Mascara
Final steps and everyone’s favorite, THE EYES! I use the NYX Micro brow pencil, in shade chocolate, to fill in my brows. Then line my waterline with the Tarte inner rim brightener and finish with Tarte’s Lights, Camera, Lashes mascara. I have tried a thousand and one mascaras in my lifetime ((but really though haha)) and this one is on my top 5 list!
